A Challenge — Done Right
The Badass Human Race is meant to be demanding. It’s supposed to test grit, strength, and mental toughness. But challenge should never come at the expense of organization or safety.
-
Every obstacle on the course is actively supervised by our Special Forces Volunteer Team, made up of experienced personnel trained under standards inspired by Army, Navy, and Air Force operations.
These volunteers are positioned to manage flow, assist participants when needed, and ensure each obstacle is completed safely and efficiently. Their presence allows us to maintain control, consistency, and safety across the entire course.
-
Each obstacle station is staffed with a dedicated obstacle judge.
Judges are responsible for:
Verifying that required movements or exercises are completed correctly
Ensuring fair and consistent standards for all participants
Monitoring penalty zones and accurately counting penalty exercises (including burpees)
This system ensures accountability, fairness, and a level playing field for every runner.
-
Hydration is a priority.
The course includes five strategically placed water stations, positioned to support runners throughout the race. Water access has been expanded and optimized to reduce congestion and ensure participants can hydrate without delay.
Medical and support staff are also present at key hydration points.
-
Any obstacle with a potential fall risk is equipped with protective landing mats.
These mats are placed intentionally to:
Reduce impact risk
Provide confidence during obstacle completion
Support athletes of all experience levels
Safety enhancements like these have been implemented across the course based on direct feedback and professional review.
-
Obstacle spacing, wave timing, and corral management have been refined to minimize bottlenecks and long lines.
This year’s course design emphasizes:
Continuous forward movement
Balanced obstacle capacity
Controlled wave releases every five minutes
Our goal is to keep runners moving—challenged, not stalled.
